ABOUT:
Jen Humphreys is a contemporary woodworker based in the North East of Scotland.
Her practice blends traditional techniques with a bold, contemporary aesthetic. Inspired by the meeting point between urban life and Scotland’s dense woodlands, Jen’s work explores the relationship between organic materials and contemporary architectural forms, contrasting natural grain patterns with precise, minimalist compositions.
Graduating from Gray’s School of Art in 2014 with a First Class Honours degree in Graphic Design, Jen went on to train in traditional furniture restoration with the Association of Master Upholsterers. This combination of design training and hands-on experience led to a role as Design Assistant at a high-end furniture studio in London.
After returning to Scotland, Jen qualified as a Chartered Teacher of Craft and Design and is now a member of teaching staff in the woodwork department at a local academy. Jen continues to develop her own creative practice from her dedicated workshop in the grounds of Banff Castle, Aberdeenshire as well as taking part in artistic residencies elsewhere to share and further explore her passion for woodworking.
